What can Democrats say or do to win back power and halt the rise of MAGA authoritarianism? This is a question we get frequently at here FrameLab.
I wish we had some magic words to share. But reframing the debate will require more than buzz words and slogans. It will require a deeper understanding of the political brain and how Republicans have used cognitive science techniques to weaponize moral values and push the country away from democracy. It will take a concerted effort by citizens, community leaders, politicians and other influential voices to put theory into practice.
And it will require an overhaul of the Democratic Party's communication strategy, with the goal of completely transforming how it speaks to the American people.
This is a lot to take in, and it requires some further explanation. Fortunately, Dr. George Lakoff has written several books that explain, in simple language, what needs to be done.
And so here's an idea for 2025: a FrameLab Book Club. Click here to fill out this brief survey and let us know if you're interested. If we get 100 participants, we'll do it! (If you don't have access to Google Forms, just send me an email: gil@theframelab.org)
Here's how it would work: We'll divide a book into sections and set deadlines for reading. Once a week, we'll summarize the main points and Dr. Lakoff will answer questions from readers. Simple enough? Let us know what you think by filling out the survey!
